Young Squires This class is for children 5-7 years old. They will be taught basic footwork and fencing concepts through games and repetition. Plastic swords and masks will be supplied in this class. There will be only 8 – 10 students per class.
Beginner Classes for All Ages These classes will teach you both basic footwork, blade work and rules of Foil Fencing. They run for one hour, once a week, for 5 weeks. Each session will build upon the previous sessions. We provide the equipment for a deposit.
Youth Foil (ages 8-12) Fun and engaging foil fencing class in a positive and supporting atmosphere for youth fencers who have already attended the beginning, 5 week, WMFA classes. WMFA membership required. Class will include games and physical conditioning exercises, foil fencing footwork and drills, and directed bouting in groups selected by experience.More experienced fencers will be using electric equipment. Classes will be held twice per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays and taught by Head Coach Michael Nemecek and Coach Doug Green. Fencing equipment is required and may be purchased or rented from WMFA. Students may be eligible to apply for scholarship reimbursement These classes run all year long starting the week of Sept. 9
Intermediate and Competitive Teen Foil (Ages 13-18) Challenging class tailored to teens who have completed the beginning fencing program or have other prior fencing experience. Both recreational and competitive foilists will have the opportunity to vastly improve their physical fitness and foil fencing skills in order to meet their personal goals. Group warm ups and conditioning exercises will be followed by tailored drills and technical instruction corresponding to experience and skill level. Directed bouting grouped by skill level will give less experienced fencers a chance to build on concepts introduced in the beginning fencing program, while competitive fencers will receive high level instruction to allow them to grow into exceptional student-athletes. Group Epee Teen and Adult (Ages 13-18) WMFA is pleased to expand the epee fencing program with a dedicated class! This program is open to all high school age or older fencers regardless of experience. Completion of the beginning fencing course or prior experience is required to sign up for this class. Emphasis will be placed on epee specific technical drills, point control, and tactics. Both recreational and competitive fencers are encouraged to attend the epee class. Fencers will be grouped by experience for directed bouting. Classes will be held on Wednesdays and taught by Coach Barney Benyovszky and Coach Doug Green. Fencing equipment is required and may be purchased or rented from WMFA. Students may be eligible to apply for scholarship reimbursement
